Kiddi Caru Day Nursery based in Plympton has just won ‘Employee of the Year’

This is a double celebration for the day nursery who received the highest Ofsted inspection result by achieving an Outstanding in 2011. They are a committed, supportive employer ensuring that staff receive every opportunity to update their skills. Their commitment to quality of service goes hand-in–hand with continuous staff training, which includes bespoke courses and Apprenticeships.

Young scientists attend Kiddi Caru Day Nursery

Children at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Basingstoke have become young scientists; experimenting with a ‘layered liquid’ activity. The children mixed water, syrup, oil and food dye in a bottle and watched to see what happened to each liquid.

Why don’t you try this at home?

Using a jar or old fizzy pop bottle add water, food dye, vegetable oil and golden syrup and watch the magic appear!

What to do:

  1. Half-fill a glass with cold water and add a few drops of food dye. Then stir the water with a teaspoon to mix in the food dye.
  2. Spoon four tablespoons of vegetable oil into a small glass jar. Then slowly add four tablespoons of dyed water and see what happens.
  3. Slowly add four tablespoons of golden syrup to the jar with a spoon. Then watch to see what happens to the three liquids in the jar.

Try adding the liquids in a different order to see what happens

Learning and Development promoted through this activity:

Step by step instructions can help your child to develop a sense of order linking to numeracy development. It will aid your child’s natural need to explore and give them the opportunity to watch how the different layers form (cause and effect). It will provide lots of fun and interaction for the family and provide opportunities to converse and ask questions such as why and how.

Diwali is the Hindu ‘festival of lights’ which celebrates the New Year. It is India's most important holiday and occurs during October or November. The festival of lights is held in honour of Lakshmi the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. Hindus pray to Lakshmi to bring them good luck in the coming year. Sensory Exploration

Kiddi Caru in Whiteley has just opened their new Sensory Exploration and Activity Room. The room is accessible to all age groups with a variety of resources to stimulate and explore the five senses.

Children can explore the properties of light in small spaces and reflection with differently shaped mirrors; a quiet place to hear different noises inside and outside whether that be a car noise or a motorcycle enabling the children to fine tune their hearing skills that will enable them to make the differences for example between a 'th' and a 'f' when learning to read and write. Children can explore their sensory awareness by finding objects in feely bags or walking with eyes closed, barefoot across different textures and games such as ‘Smell Pairs’.

Autumn leaves are falling, gently to the ground
Green leaves, red leaves, yellow leaves and brown
Falling, twirling, spiraling down
